Southwesterly – DV film 2 mins 06 secs (Autumn 2009)

Southwesterley

Filmed directly outside the artist’s house over which clouds and birds constantly roll and whirl, gulls and jackdaws charge about the sky. Often too quick to capture, they occasionally linger overhead to create aerial dot-to-dot marks and patterns. This work pays homage to the Japanese master filmmaker Yasujiro Ozu whose use of lines e.g. telegraph lines, railway lines, washing lines resonate as devices that connect people.
